Warkworth — Local artist Lenni Workman’s organic farm near Warkworth is where she grows not only her fresh produce, fruits, greenhouse plants and more but is the place where her ideas for her works of art sprout from as well.

Some florals she painted a few years ago, large in scale and brightly coloured, provide insight into some of the finished pieces she enjoys painting.

Her latest exhibition called “Up Close and Far Away” is now available for viewing at Ah! Arts and Heritage Centre.

I am reinterpreting “The Floral”, historically a woman painter’s subject, transforming it with the use of scale, heightened colour and values,” she said. “With my latest series, the ‘resting’ subjects bring an added gestural element and a reference to the fragility of earth’s environment.

The title of her show, “Up Close and Far Away”, she explained, “Also refers to my usual compositional tendency to eliminate mid-ground space, making the foreground an icon and the background a mystery.
